Who It Is For

For Founders Backed by the French Tech Ecosystem

The French Tech Visa is a fast-track way for foreign founders to obtain a Talent Passport, the multi-year French residence permit. It rests on recognition of your project by a partner incubator, accelerator or public body, rather than on a diploma or a fixed investment.

If your start-up is innovative and a French Tech partner will support it, this route offers one of Europe’s most generous residence permits for founders.

Benefits

Why Launch Your Startup in France?

A long permit, family rights and a thriving tech scene.

🗓️

A Long-Term Permit

The Talent Passport is typically granted for up to four years and can be renewed, so you do not renew every year.

🎓

No Diploma Required

Unlike many start-up visas, the French Tech route focuses on your project and its recognition, not on your academic degrees.

💼

No Separate Work Permit

The card itself lets you work in your business, so you do not apply for a separate work authorisation.

👨‍👩‍👧

Family Rights

Your spouse and children can receive residence permits together with yours, and your spouse can work in France.

🚀

A Thriving Start-Up Scene

Paris and other French Tech hubs offer incubators, investors and a large talent pool.

🌍

EU Market Access

Operate from France and trade across the EU single market, with Schengen travel for short stays.

Duration, Fees and Co-Founders

The French Tech route is simple on paper, but the recognition step shapes everything that follows.

  • The residence permit is the Talent Passport, typically valid for up to four years and renewable
  • Government fees are modest compared with many countries, and we confirm the current amounts
  • Several co-founders can apply, as long as each is recognised and can show the required resources
  • Your family members apply for family cards linked to yours
  • Years of legal residence can later support long-term residence or citizenship

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most about the France startup visa.

Does my startup need to be already incorporated in France to apply?

Not necessarily. The key step is recognition of your project by a partner incubator or public body. Many founders obtain this recognition first and register the company in France once the process is underway, though the right order depends on your case.

What defines the innovative character of a project?

The project should offer a genuinely new product, service or business model with real potential to scale, usually in technology or a related field. The incubator or public body assesses this, so a clear and credible plan is essential.

Can I switch from a different visa to a French Tech Visa while inside France?

In some cases, yes. People already living in France under another status may be able to change to a Talent Passport if they meet the conditions. We review your current status before advising.

How long does the visa take?

Once you hold your recognition letter, consulate decisions often take several weeks, though the full journey including recognition commonly takes a few months. We give you a realistic estimate for your situation.

Can my family join me?

Yes. Your spouse and children can receive family residence permits, and your spouse is authorised to work in France. We prepare the family file together with yours.

Is there a minimum investment?

There is no fixed minimum investment. You must show personal resources at least equal to the annual minimum wage, together with a recognised innovative project.

Do you guarantee approval?

No one can. The final decision rests with the French authorities. What we do is make sure your application is complete, accurate and well prepared, which gives you the strongest possible chance.
