For Founders and Self-Employed Entrepreneurs
Slovakia grants temporary residence for business purposes to non-EU nationals who run a registered business as a sole trader or manage a company they own. It is a practical route for entrepreneurs who want a lower-cost base in the centre of Europe.
Because applications are now limited by an annual quota and must be filed at Slovak missions abroad, early and accurate preparation matters more than ever.

How the 2026 Quota Affects You
Since mid-2025, the process changed in ways that make planning essential.
- Applications are filed at Slovak missions abroad, not from inside Slovakia
- An annual quota of about 700 applications applies, and each consulate has a limited number of slots
- The initial permit is valid for up to three years
- After arrival, you register with the Foreign Police and give biometrics
- Renewals depend on keeping a genuine, active business

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about the Slovakia entrepreneur visa.
Is there a quota for business visas in 2026?
Yes. Slovakia limits business-purpose applications to an annual quota of around 700, and each consulate has a limited number of slots, so early booking is critical. We help you plan around it.
What happens to my residency if my business is not profitable?
Renewals depend on showing a genuine, active business. If it is not generating the expected income, the authorities may question your renewal, so we advise realistic planning from the start.
Are there medical check-ups after I arrive?
Foreigners staying for a longer period may be asked to complete a medical examination or health check after arrival. We confirm the requirements that apply when you plan your move.
Can I apply from inside Slovakia?
Under the rules that took effect in mid-2025, business applications are generally filed at a Slovak embassy or consulate abroad, so you normally apply before you move.
How much money do I need to show?
It depends on your structure. As an example, a sole trader typically shows about 12 times the subsistence minimum for personal needs plus about 20 times for business, while company executives face higher multiples. We calculate your exact figure.
Can my family join me?
Yes, your spouse and children can usually apply for their own residence permits. We prepare the family documents together with your application.
Do you guarantee approval?
No one can. The final decision rests with the Slovak authorities. What we do is make sure your application is complete, accurate and well prepared, which gives you the strongest possible chance.
