Who It Is For
A Low-Cost Gateway to the EU
Latvia’s investor residence permit lets non-EU nationals obtain a temporary residence permit in a Schengen and eurozone country by investing in the Latvian economy. It has long been one of the lowest-entry options in Europe.
After the 2026 reform, it is aimed mainly at entrepreneurs who want a genuine business presence in Latvia, and at investors who prefer the new state fund route.
Benefits
Why Consider the Latvia Golden Visa?
A modest entry point, EU access and a stable base on the Baltic Sea.
Low Entry Point
The company route starts from €50,000 of share capital, which has made Latvia one of the most affordable investor programs in Europe.
Schengen Access
A Latvian residence permit lets you travel within the Schengen Area for short stays, subject to Schengen rules.
Family Inclusion
Your spouse and dependent children can usually be included, with the right to live and study in Latvia.
A Real Business Base
The company route gives you a Latvian company that can operate across the EU single market.
Eurozone Living
Latvia uses the euro, and Riga offers a historic centre, a growing tech scene and a high quality of life.
Baltic Lifestyle
Beaches, forests and walkable old towns sit within easy reach of the capital.
2026 Investment Options
Which Routes Are Open Today?
These are the routes reported under the new law. Details are still being clarified in practice, so we confirm each one with you before you commit.
Company Investment
Investment of €50,000 or €100,000 in the share capital of a qualifying Latvian company, depending on its size, plus a one-time state payment of €10,000 with the first permit application.
New State Fund Route
A €150,000 investment through a state-established alternative investment fund, held for at least five years, with permits valid for up to five years. Some sources say it is not yet fully operational.
Company Conditions
The company must carry out genuine activity and meet conditions such as tax payments, so a real business plan is important.
Real Estate: Closed
The €250,000 property route no longer accepts new applications under the 2026 law.
Bank Deposit and Bonds: Closed
The €280,000 subordinated deposit route and the government bond route have also been removed for new applicants.
Existing Permits
Permits already issued under the old routes are reported to remain valid, subject to their own renewal conditions.

Validity and Long-Term Residency
How Long Does the Permit Last?
The new law shortened some permit terms, so it pays to plan your timeline around the route you choose.
- Company route permits are reported to be valid for two years and renewable, rather than the previous five
- The state fund route is reported to offer permits of up to five years
- Permanent residence may be possible after five years of legal residence, subject to conditions such as a basic Latvian language test
- Citizenship is a separate, longer process with its own requirements

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about the Latvia Golden Visa.
Can I still invest in real estate to get the Golden Visa?
No. Under Latvia’s new Immigration Law, which took effect in September 2026, buying property no longer qualifies new applicants for residence by investment. Older guides that mention the €250,000 route are out of date.
What are the financial requirements for the business route?
The company route requires an investment of €50,000 or €100,000 in the share capital of a qualifying Latvian company, depending on the company, plus a one-time €10,000 state payment with the first permit. The company must also meet activity and tax conditions.
Is the new state fund route open?
It has been introduced under the new law, with a €150,000 investment held for at least five years. Some sources say it is not yet fully operational, so we check its current status before you commit any funds.
Do I need to live in Latvia to get permanent residency?
Permanent residence generally requires several years of legal residence and other conditions, such as a basic Latvian language test. We explain the requirements that apply to your route.
What happens to permits issued under the old routes?
Existing permits are reported to remain valid, though renewal terms can differ. If you already hold one, we can review your position and your options.
Can my family join me?
Yes, a spouse and dependent children can usually be included. Each family member has their own application and documents, and we review your situation case by case.
Do you guarantee approval?
No one can. The final decision rests with the Latvian authorities. What we do is make sure your application is complete, accurate and well prepared, which gives you the strongest possible chance.
