Who It Is For
A Sunny, Safe Base for Remote Professionals
Croatia’s digital nomad permit is a temporary residence permit for non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss nationals who work remotely for a foreign employer or run their own business registered outside Croatia.
If you earn your income abroad, want to live on the euro in a scenic Mediterranean country and have no plan to work for Croatian companies, this permit could be the right fit.
Benefits
Why Choose the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa?
A modern EU country with beautiful coastline, a clear process and a tax advantage for qualifying nomads.
Tax Exemption on Foreign Income
Income earned from foreign employers or clients during your permit is exempt from Croatian income tax. Your home country’s rules and other taxes may still apply, so advice is worthwhile.
Schengen Mobility
Croatia is part of the Schengen Area, which makes short trips around Europe straightforward, subject to Schengen rules.
A Clear Application Process
You can apply through a Croatian embassy or consulate, or at a police station if you are already in the country and do not need a visa to enter.
Family Inclusion
Family members can be included, with a modest increase in the income you need to show for each additional person.
Coastline and Culture
From Dubrovnik and Split to Zagreb and the islands, enjoy warm summers, historic towns and a relaxed pace of life.
Life on the Euro
Croatia uses the euro, which simplifies budgeting, banking and travel across much of Europe.
Eligibility
Do You Qualify? Key Requirements
Croatian authorities check your income, your work setup and your living arrangements closely. Here is what you will typically need.
Minimum Monthly Income
For 2026 the threshold is €3,622.50 per month, up from €3,295 in 2025, supported by about six months of payslips or bank statements.
Savings Alternative
You can instead show savings of around €43,470 to cover a 12-month stay, which helps freelancers with variable income.
Work for Non-Croatian Entities
You must work for an employer or clients outside Croatia, or through your own company registered abroad. Working for Croatian companies is not allowed.
Health Insurance
Private medical cover that is valid in Croatia for the whole length of your stay.
Accommodation in Croatia
Proof of a place to live for the permit period, such as a rental agreement or property ownership.
Clean Record and Valid Passport
A valid passport that extends at least three months beyond your planned stay, plus a clean criminal record certificate.

Stay Duration
How Long Can You Stay, and What Comes Next?
The permit is typically granted for up to 12 months and can be extended, with a maximum total stay of 18 months. After that, it is a temporary route rather than a long-term settlement plan.
- Initial permit of up to 12 months
- Extension possible up to 18 months in total
- A break of around six months before you can apply again
- Not a path to permanent residence or Croatian citizenship
- Each family member adds roughly 10% of the average net salary to the income requirement
The income threshold is recalculated every year based on Croatian salary statistics, so we always confirm the current figure before you apply.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about the Croatia digital nomad visa.
Do I have to pay tax in Croatia?
Under Croatian rules, income from a foreign employer or foreign clients received on the basis of digital nomad status is exempt from Croatian income tax during the permit. However, your home country may still tax you, and other obligations can apply, so we recommend speaking with a qualified tax adviser.
Can I apply if I am already in Croatia as a tourist?
It depends on your nationality. If you do not need a visa to enter Croatia, you may be able to apply at a local police station. If you need a visa, you generally apply at a Croatian embassy or consulate abroad. We check which route applies to you.
What happens after my permit expires?
The permit lasts up to 12 months and can be extended to a maximum of 18 months in total. After that you must leave Croatia and wait around six months before applying again, so plan your timeline carefully.
Can I work for Croatian companies or clients?
No. The permit is only for work done for employers or clients outside Croatia, or through your own business registered abroad. Working for a Croatian entity can put your permit at risk.
Does this permit lead to permanent residency or citizenship?
No. The digital nomad permit is a temporary route and does not itself lead to permanent residence or Croatian citizenship. If long-term settlement is your goal, we can discuss other options that may suit you better.
Can my family join me?
Yes, family members can be included. Each additional family member raises the income you need to show by roughly 10% of Croatia’s average net salary, and we calculate the exact figure for your household.
Do you guarantee approval?
No one can. The final decision rests with the Croatian authorities. What we do is make sure your application is complete, accurate and well presented, which gives you the strongest possible chance.
