Who It Is For

One Visa, Two Ways to Enjoy Thailand

Thailand’s digital nomad visa is officially called the Destination Thailand Visa, or DTV. It is designed for people who want to spend extended time in Thailand without taking up local employment.

The Workcation route suits remote employees, freelancers and digital entrepreneurs who earn from clients or employers outside Thailand. The Soft Power route suits people joining approved activities such as Muay Thai training, Thai cooking courses, medical treatment, seminars or music festivals.

Eligibility

Do You Qualify? Key Requirements

Thai embassies handle applications slightly differently, so we check your profile against the checklist for the embassy that covers you.

πŸŽ‚

Age and Passport

You must be at least 20 years old and hold a passport that remains valid for the whole period of your application and stay.

🏦

Proof of Funds

A bank balance of at least 500,000 THB, which is roughly US$14,000, supported by recent bank statements.

πŸ’»

Proof of Your Route

For Workcation, an employment contract, freelance agreements or a business portfolio. For Soft Power, an acceptance letter from the activity provider.

🌐

Work for Non-Thai Clients

The DTV is for remote work for employers and clients outside Thailand. Working for a Thai company needs a different visa and a work permit.

πŸ“„

Clean Criminal Record

Recent rule updates make a criminal record or police clearance certificate a required supporting document, and we confirm the exact format for your embassy.

🏠

Accommodation Plans

Details of where you will stay in Thailand, such as a booking or rental agreement, as requested by the embassy.

Stay Rules and Tax

Stays, Extensions and Your Tax Position

The visa is valid for five years, but how long you can remain at one time is set per entry, so it helps to plan your calendar from the start.

  • Each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days
  • One extension of 180 days is usually possible at an immigration office, at a fee that is generally 1,900 THB
  • Leave and re-enter to begin a new stay within the five-year validity
  • Stays beyond 90 days require you to report your address to immigration every 90 days

Staying 180 days or more in a calendar year can make you a Thai tax resident, which may affect foreign income that you bring into Thailand. Please speak with a qualified tax adviser before you settle.

The Process

How It Works

Five clear stages, with Migrate Way beside you at every one.

1

Eligibility and Route Selection

We confirm whether the Workcation or Soft Power route fits you best, and check your age, funds and work setup against the requirements.

2

Document Audit

We review your contracts, portfolio, bank statements and police clearance. Documents usually need to be in English or Thai, so we advise on translations.

3

Online Submission

Your application is filed through Thailand’s e-Visa system for the embassy or consulate that covers your country of residence, and the 10,000 THB fee is paid. The fee is generally non-refundable, so accuracy matters.

4

Processing and Approval

The embassy reviews your file, and timelines vary by location. Once approved, you receive your multiple-entry DTV.

5

Arrival and Settling In

On your first entry you receive a stay of up to 180 days. We then guide you on address reporting, extensions and the practical steps for family members.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most about the Thailand digital nomad visa.

Can I work for a local Thai company on a DTV?

No. The DTV is strictly for remote work for companies and clients located outside Thailand. Working for a Thai-based entity requires a different visa category and a work permit.

Do I have to pay tax in Thailand on my remote income?

It depends on how long you stay. Spending 180 days or more in a calendar year can make you a Thai tax resident, and foreign income brought into Thailand may then be taxable. Because the rules are technical, we recommend advice from a qualified tax adviser.

Is there an age limit for the Thailand digital nomad visa?

There is a minimum age of 20 for the main applicant. We are not aware of a published upper age limit, but requirements can be updated, so we always confirm before you apply.

How much does it cost?

The visa fee is 10,000 THB per applicant, and it is generally non-refundable even if an application is refused. Extending a stay at an immigration office has a separate fee, usually 1,900 THB. You will also need to show at least 500,000 THB in funds, which stays in your own account.

Can my family join me?

Yes. Your spouse and unmarried children under 20 can apply for their own DTV as dependants, and each applicant pays the visa fee. We prepare the combined family file for you.

How long can I stay in Thailand?

The visa is valid for five years, and each entry allows up to 180 days. You can usually extend once by a further 180 days at an immigration office, then leave and re-enter to start a new stay.

Do you guarantee approval?

No one can. The final decision rests with the Thai authorities. What we do is make sure your application is complete, accurate and well presented, which gives you the strongest possible chance.
